DTVKit donate to help fight hunger in Bristol
At this time of year especially, thoughts often turn to giving. At DTVKit, we benefit from a global membership, but also from the vibrant, diverse and dynamic city of Bristol, where our offices are based. We feel a strong responsibility to make a contribution to our local community, particularly when hunger and poverty are challenging issues in areas of our city.
That’s why we have decided to donate to three charities who are doing vital work to tackle hunger suffered by many families in the Bristol area, not only over the Christmas period, but all year round.
Our Chosen Bristol Charities
Fare Share South West is the local regional branch of the UK’s largest food charity. Fare Share aim to tackle the twin issues of food waste and food poverty, by taking quality, in-date food that would otherwise have gone to waste and distributing it to their charity members. The members, which include homeless shelters, school breakfast clubs and women’s support charities, use the food to make nutritional meals for those in need.
The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children’s Appeal is a charity that raises money throughout the year to help the city’s most disadvantaged children and young people at Christmas time. Through a carol concert and other events, they aim to raise £66,000 to help 1,650 children who are most in need with vouchers for gifts, clothing and food.
As food poverty has risen throughout the UK, The Trussell Trust has been on the frontline, with its network of food banks distributing over half a million food parcels to children last year. The Christmas Appeal aims to raise money to enable food banks to provide compassionate, practical support and advice to help families in crisis.
Food Poverty in Bristol
The vital work done by these organisations is only possible because of support and donations from individuals and organisations who share their goal of eliminating food poverty.
